Quarterly Quote of the Month about Jesus for this Week

“As obvious as it is, then, Jesus is bigger than any one religion.

He didn't come to start a new religion, and he continually disrupted whatever conventions or systems or establishments that existed in his day. He will always transcend whatever cages and labels are created to contain him, especially the one called 'Christianity'.”

                                         ~Rob Bell

  1. If Jesus is God, then He transcends everything anyway, including "cages and labels". So the statement's a bit circular.

  2. I like Rob, but, disagree with Rob's thought above.

I think Jesus did come to enter human history as pre planned and predicted by Yahweh and documented in the OT text to inaugurate the kingdom of God on earth as it is in heaven and to begin the restoration of the universe and that worship of Him is the key to grasping all this.

That's 1 religion with Jesus of biblical fame at the heart of it.

  3. This is really interesting, I've been posting weekly "quotes" about Jesus for three months. I've included quotes by Lewis and Nietzsche and Vonnegut and Augustine... and it's Rob Bell who gets people revved up.

Please, people! Don't tell me where your bruises are; I am likely to poke them.

  4. I think Rob is dead right. Jesus came to put an end to religion and to teach us how to live. So, we made a religion out of him, and we don't do a damn thing he said.
