Quarterly Quote of the Month about Jesus for this Week

So the people amused themselves one day by nailing him to a cross and planting the cross in the ground. There couldn’t possibly be any repercussions, the lynchers thought. The reader would have to think that, too, since the new Gospel hammered home again and again what a nobody Jesus was.

And then, just before the nobody died, the heavens opened up, and there was thunder and lightning. The voice of God came crashing down. He told the people that he was adopting the bum as his son, giving him the full powers and privileges of The Son of the Creator of the Universe throughout all eternity. God said this: From this moment on, He will punish horribly anybody who torments a bum who has no connections.

  1. Thanks for your time and postings. I miss your insightful "talks" at LCU, but your blog posts will have to suffice! I am going to share this quote. Do you have a twitter feed for the blog? That would be great to have!

  2. This is the first time that I've seen this quote, and it is very interesting. It really makes you think twice about who Jesus was. Was he a "nobody" in his time? Or was he a prominent figure? While we will never know for sure, this quote really made me ponder whether if Jesus had lived during this day and age, would he have been looked down upon because he defied social norms and strayed from the status quo? While we criticize thos who did not believe in Jesus at the time, we must seriously ask ourselves what we would have done had we been in their shoes.

  3. Going off of the blog comment above, I think that Jesus may have been looked down upon during the age he was living especially in the eyes of the Romans. Rome wanted to control and make sure that there were no uprisings against the empire, and for those who did commit this crime they were crucified. The majority of people crucified were rebels and slaves, and the fact that the Romans decided to crucify Jesus shows their disrespect towards him. They looked down on him as a criminal.
