Rome wanted to control and make sure that there were no uprisings against the empire, and for those who did commit this crime they were crucified. The majority of people crucified were rebels and slaves, and the fact that the Romans decided to crucify Jesus shows their disrespect towards him. They looked down on him as a criminal. It really makes you think twice about who Jesus was. Was he a "nobody" in his time? Or was he a prominent figure? While we will never know for sure, this quote really made me ponder whether if Jesus had lived during this day and age, would he have been looked down upon because he defied social norms and strayed from the status quo?
