This is a topic that interests me a great deal and (to my mind) should be on the radar of Jesus historians. Judging by the names involved in this conversation, this event promises to be a lively and frank conversation that includes an exploration of the many differences between sibling religions.

  1. I think they do, the Koran lifts many of the OT strictures directly. Sharia is Torah, Islam agrees all the OT prophets are valid prophets.

To me, Islam is reminiscent of 2cd temple Samaritan faith, different places to worship, same basic modes as OT Judaism. Same lack of spiritual insight.

  2. I would be interested to learn more about this topic. I think that it is worthwhile to learn more about how different religions are related to one another. In my opinion, religions don't necessarily worship the same God, however, they seem to promote a similar ideal of what a deity should represent. While each religion may call their God by a different name, I think the overall idea that the deity should represent "good" and "all-powerful" are a shared idea amongst many religions.

  3. The Muslims believe in one god, Allah and that Muhammad is his prophet. This is similar to what we believe about Jesus. Although Jesus doesn't not have a prophet he is considered the son of David. I don't know if there is any parallel here, but it seems that the belief in one god makes the Islamic and Christian religions quite similar.
