Quarterly Quote of the Month about Jesus for this Week

My study of the Bible, my many conversations with people of faith, has led me to believe the most important commandment is to love the Lord with all your might and to love your neighbor as yourself, and that is what I think we are commanded by Christ to do, and there is so much more in the Bible about taking care of the poor, visiting the prisoners, taking in the stranger, creating opportunities for others to be lifted up, to find faith themselves that I think there are many different ways of exercising your faith. But I do believe that in many areas judgment should be left to God, that being more open, tolerant and respectful is part of what makes me humble about my faith, and I am in awe of people who truly turn the other cheek all the time, who can go that extra mile that we are called to go, who keep finding ways to forgive and move on. Those are really hard things for human beings to do, and there is a lot, certainly in the New Testament, that calls us to do that.

Wow! I bet Christians of all types and persuasions must be flocking around this candidate! Especially since the OTHER candidate says he's never even sought forgiveness for his sins. I bet that Orthodox Jews must also be crazy about this candidate, as they'd be the first Jews to see the Torah importance of humility, love of neighbor and care for the poor.

    *sigh* what a world

  2. Unfortunately, this candidate represents institutional power, influence, corruption, and empire. Not an endorsement for the opposing, but clearly she is a representative of the upper echelon of the elite who is able to bend the system in her favor.. Again, no apology for the other buffoon, but this is an imperial power personality with prestige, a sharp contrast to the anti-empire narrative of powerless, poor, and desperate 2T Palestinians. (Of course, I may have been taken in by a satirical post, which seems the more likely.)

    1. Kerygma, this is not satire. Here is the source:

In case you are new to this blog, I will reiterate the point of the "Quotes" feature. I am of the mind that Jesus often acts as an ideological mirror that reveals the highest aspirations of people (of all kinds). No doubt, some of these ideologies I affirm and others I don't. I am not neutral - especially when it comes to politics. But I post quotes about Jesus to tell you something about the person pictured and the culture they represent, not to claim that they know anything about Jesus himself.

      Thanks for chiming in!

  3. I guess she had to forgive Bill seven times. Or was it seventy-seven times?
Well to tell you the truth I kinda lost track.
