For those contemplating attending the 2016 "Memory and the Reception of Jesus in Early Christianity" Conference, here is the tentative roster of speakers and times. You can register for the conference here. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to write to me at chris.keith@stmarys.ac.uk. I should probably add that places are beginning to fill up and we do have a cap on the number of people who can attend due to space issues. So if you're thinking of coming, you may want to go ahead and register.

I'm really showing my ignorance here. If I may ask, how is the word "reception" being used in the titles of the presentations noted above?
The technical answer is in the sense of Gadamerian Wirkungsgeschichte. The non-technical answer is in the sense of appreciating how any given interpreter is influenced by previous interpretations but nevertheless capable of casting his or her own interpretation, which may affirm, presuppose, outright reject, or anything else, those previous interpretations. Does that help, Gene?

Hey Chris, whatever a phrase like "G...W..." stands for I'm for it. Your non-technical answer is very helpful, and I find my own thinking very much in alignment with what you've said about interpretation. I'm looking forward to reading Kirk and Thatcher's "Memory, Tradition, and Text" which came in the mail today. Thanks again.
Gene, glad to know you're "for it" and I love this answer! Definitely let us know what you think about Kirk and Thatcher.
