The Centre
for the Social-Scientific Study of the Bible at St Mary’s University,
Twickenham, in cooperation with the Bible
Society, invites applications for two bursaries, which will cover all
expenses (travel, hotel, food, registration) for postgraduate students to
attend the “Engaging with Poverty in the Early Church and Today.” These funds are aimed especially for those
students who may otherwise not be able to afford the costs of attendance and
preference will be given to students from developing countries, though all
applications will be considered. To
apply, students should send an application letter, CV, and reference to
Professor Steve Walton at steve.walton@stmarys.ac.uk. Their application letter should be no more
than three pages and should address at least the following: (1) their current institution; (2) their
current course of study; and (3) how the topic of the conference is related to
their postgraduate studies.
Applications are due by November 15, 2015. Please direct any enquiries to Prof Steve
Walton (steve.walton@stmarys.ac.uk)
or Prof Chris Keith (chris.keith@stmarys.ac.uk)
at CSSSB.
Please note that the successful applications are responsible
for securing travel visas if they are necessary.
A fascinating subject. The priesthood's ascetic embrace of " poverty, chastity, and obedience, " is in striking contrast with Biblical promises of prosperity.
