To kick off our series of book giveaways
sponsored by Baylor University Press, we’re giving away a copy of the
recently-translated From Jesus to the New Testament by Jens Schröter. Wayne
Coppins has translated this version of Schröter’s Von Jesus zum Neuen Testament (originally published by Mohr Siebeck
in the WUNT 1 monograph series). Anthony
and I have long claimed that Jens is the fountainhead of the New Historiography
in Jesus studies, and this book is one of the prime places to find his work on
this topic. It also deals with many
issues concerning the development of the NT canon.
You can enter to win the typical ways: leave a comment here; sign up to follow the
blog (and leave a comment saying you did); post this on Facebook (and leave a
comment saying you did); tweet this (and leave a comment saying you did).
I’m also, however, adding another means of
entering the contest. Leave in the
comments here your favorite quote from The
Royal Tenenbaums. It’s ok if someone
else has already done it. I’ll
start: “Well, Wildcat was written in a
kind of obsolete vernacular” (Eli Cash).
Ok, there’s too many for any one favorite.
Regardless, have at it. We’ll count up all the comments, take them to
the true random number generator, and find a winner and announce it on the
blog. Baylor University Press will then
send you a copy.
Why would a reviewer make the point of saying someone's *not* a genius? Do you especially think I'm *not* a genius? You didn't even have to think about it, did you? (Eli Cash).
ReplyDeleteLeaving a quote, 'cause I'd like to win.

ReplyDeleteI'm very sorry for your loss. Your mother was a terribly attractive woman.
ReplyDeleteEveryone knows that Custer died at Little Bighorn. What this book presupposes is...maybe he didn't?
ReplyDeleteO–R they?
ReplyDeleteDisqualification, Jack Weinbender! This is Rushmore. But, we'll give you an honorable mention if this is the winning comment!
Deleteblast! I always confuse those two. Anyway, someone should check to see if Jens Schröter's cat is OK.

ReplyDeleteHe saved my life, you know. 30 years ago, I was knifed in a bazaar in Calcutta. He carried me to the hospital on his back.
ReplyDeleteWho stabbed you?
He did. There was a price on my head, and he was a hired assassin. Stuck me right in the gut with a shiv.
I can't help giving another of my favorites: "Did you just call me Coletrain?"
ReplyDeleteI want this.

ReplyDeleteSince we're in the running for a book (ooh, pick me, pick me):
ReplyDeleteThe crickets and the rust-beetles scuttled among the nettles of the sage thicket. "Vamonos, Amigos" he whispered, and threw the busted leather flint craw over the loose weave of the saddle cock. And they rode on in the friscalating dusk light.
Margot Tenenbaum was adopted at age 2. Her father had always noted this when introducing her.

ReplyDeleteNarrator: The three Tenenbaum children performed Margo's first play on the night of her eleventh birthday. They had agreed to invite their father to the party.
ReplyDeleteChas: Well, what'd you think, dad?
Royal: Erm. . . Didn't seem believable to me. Why are you wearing pajamas, do you live here?
Richie: He has permission to sleep over.
Royal: Mmm. . .
Chas: Well, did you at least think that the characters were well developed?
Royal: What characters? There's just a bunch of little kids in animal costumes.
Margo: Goodnight, everyone.
Royal: Oh, sweetie, don't be mad at me. That's just one man's opinion. . . Happy birthday to you. Happy birth. . .
Narrator: He had not been invited to any of their parties since.
I am treedy for more books.
