Tom Wright and the Victory of Fortress Press

My favorite Facebook quote of the day comes from Jeremiah Baily who writes:

Only N.T. Wright could get away with publishing "Volume 4" in 3 parts. That's some Lightfoot level shenanigans.
...and in case you're wondering, it is quite true. I copied this from the St. Andrew's divinity faculty webpage:

2013 - *Paul and the Faithfulness of God. Vol. IV of Christian Origins and the Question of God. London: SPCK; Minneapolis: Fortress (forthcoming) (three separate ‘volumes’)

How can you not be entertained by this business?!

  1. Apparently, pt 2 of the three volume set is the one that we've been waiting for. The others look rather like they don't fit the COQG series. It's a bit disappointing, really...

  2. "NOBODY expects the Spanish Inquisition!

Our chief weapon is surprise ... surprise and fear ... fear and surprise .... Our two weapons are fear and surprise ... and ruthless efficiency .... Our *three* weapons are fear, surprise, and ruthless efficiency ... and an almost fanatical devotion to the Pope.... Our *four* ... no ... *Amongst* our weapons .... Amongst our weaponry ... are such elements as fear, surprise .... I'll come in again."

    Counting is hard.

  3. I wanna know how the guy has time. I just saw him on a youtube video singing a song he wrote called "Genesis" to the Beatles "Yesterday" tune. Just a little gig on the side...of writing thousands of pages per year.

  5. Is this Tom's version of a trinity: 3 in 1 and 1 in 3?

  7. Every volume that J.P. Meier writes for the Marginal Jew series seems to double the amount of books to his projected total. I find it hard to complain about though, because more JP Meier can't be a bad thing. I feel the same about Wright. If he writes something, I'll read it, and probably enjoy myself doing it.
