Description: The John, Jesus, and History Group will highlight issues related to the Johannine tradition and the composition-history of the Fourth Gospel and the Johannine Epistles, with special emphasis on the place of these documents in contemporary study of Christian origins. Dialogue on these issues will be encouraged through the group’s annual meetings and through other venues throughout the year.

  2. I often like to entertain the hypothesis that originally Christianity was essentially the nationalist Jewish accomodation to Greco-Roman rule. (Hellenization; Romanization). Currently I sometimes see Jesus as a partial, servant/healer/accomodationist. Possibly an illegitimate son of the Lord God Herod; the flat-out collaborator.

    But there is wisdom after all, in being humble enough to work for others. Even alleged enemies.

    "Love your enemy." Jesus said he never saw as much faith in the children of Israel, as he saw in the Roman centurion.
