I won't try to speak fully for Le Donne on this, but I would venture to guess that he views this book as something of a prolegomena for more complex conversations. That's the impression I had, anyway.Chris Keithhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12007521996155910288noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8637125351921336084.post-5358464103858680272017-02-28T10:00:46.041-08:002017-02-28T10:00:46.041-08:00Gene Stecher

But in spite of Dr. Le Donne's yeoman's work on the key western historical relationship of the past two millennia, the most important factor has been almost entirely missed. That factor is the cross of Jesus. James Carroll certainly recognized the problem in Constantine's Sword (2001) and David Nirenberg not so much in Anti-Judaism (2013)[Carroll's name doesn't even appear in a 610 page work]. Until Christian and Jew can stand together, holding hands in unity, as they view the crucified Jesus, the relationship will always have a gaping wound dripping blood. Someone has got to address the tens of thousands of crosses that cast a shadow over Jerusalem; Jesus was but one among them.

Anthony certainly did well in walking us along the border of tolerant and loving relationships. Love, of course, is interactive and still does not cast judgment on the other. It's simply an interaction of pure joy. A mature relationship can view life's mysteries without judgment. Carl Rogers, one of psychology's founding fathers identified the components of such relationships: potential, genuineness, unconditional positive regard, empathy, and the like. I must be able to embrace a fellow Jew in like manner, and he/she me, so that both of us realize no change is necessary.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8637125351921336084.post-77081621293085594342017-02-28T09:44:35.568-08:002017-02-28T09:44:35.568-08:00This is a model of how to write a book review.
