Oh, How I Appreciate the Tireless Efforts of James McGrath! - Le Donne.

Please, enjoy.

For the record, I am a card-carrying Christian (it was a promotion put on by my credit union), I do think that some of the traditional criteria can still be useful, and I am flattered to be mistaken as Jewish. Really, made my day.

  1. This absolutely made my day. Just classic. For the record, I too am a Christian but I have to part ways with Dr. Le Donne on the criteria. I think they're useless. There are some other important things I believe, too. First, the Louisville Cardinals are still the best college basketball team in the country. Second, the best pulled-pork BBQ comes from shacks that barely pass health inspection. Also, Anthony, technically the accusation is that you used to be Jewish.

    1. Also 1) a speculation; "I think" he might have been Jewish.

Also 2) not an "accusation"; why is speculating one what one's religion might be, an "accusation"? Especially when we are congratulating minorities on having valuable perspectives.

      3) And? The best BBQ places - in Lockhart Texas by the way - barely pass inspection. Though they are getting better at it all the time.

      4) And? The Criteria are worse than useless; they are a positive detriment; an inside joke. As I'm noting in some (informal) detail in reponse to say, McGrath's recent Facebook post on Anti-Mythicist Bias in Religious Studies programs.

    2. Apologies, "speculation" not "accusation."

  2. Anthony, technically "Le Donne" means "the tzeddakah", and tzeddakah is about the highest of the mitzvot, which places you within the ancient covenant community, which means that you're separated from being Jewish by at most a few art museum memberships and total amnesia on basic home repair skills. I've seen theories about HJ built on much less than this. Yes, I know that this opinion may be unpopular, but I myself have never courted popularity.

  3. I can't help but think this whole mix-up is my fault since I'm pseudo-Jewish.
